Community Printmaking Sessions
with Holly Jerger Adult Art Workshop

Tuesdays, October 8-November 19 | 6:30-9:30pm
Cost per session: $25/$20 CAFAM Members

 

Whether you are a novice or expert printer join other like-minded folks for our printmaking sessions that offer space, basic supplies, and casual instruction. Materials for various relief printing processes, collograph, and monotype are on hand. Small etching presses and letterpresses are also available for use.

 

For ages 17 years + up.

DIY Papermaking Workshop
with Leslie K. Gray

Sunday, October 20 | 2:00-5:00pm*

$55/$45 CAFAM members

 

Artist Leslie K. Gray will show you how to make handmade paper using accessible materials and equipment. With a homemade screen, you'll turn your recycled office documents, home computer print outs, and old mail into new, colorful and textured papers. Please bring in a bag of shredded paper (make sure no other materials are mixed in). Each participant will get to make about 5 sheets of paper. *Please note that if your paper doesn't dry fully that day, you'll be able to pick it up at a later date.

Needle Felting Workshop
with Yuko Makuuchi

Sunday, November 3 | 1:00-4:00pm
$55/$45 CAFAM members

 

Wool is an incredibly versatile and evocative material that can be transformed into a dense fabric simply by adding some friction. Using a sharp needle, crafter Yuko Makuuchi will lead you in felting the raw wool fibers into small geometric forms that can become functional gifts or just a cool item for yourself.

You probably haven't thought about kaleidoscopes since childhood, but they are not just for kids! Learn a bit about the mechanics of these colorful toys and construct your own version out of a mailing tube and other fun materials.

The Art of Poetry

Bookmaking Workshop
with Jeannine Stein
Sunday, November 17 | 1:00-4:30pm
$65/$55 CAFAM members

 

Everyone needs a great sketchbook, so why not make one yourself? In this workshop, book artist Jeannine Stein will show you how to create an open-spine book (8x10”) that lays flat and is perfect for drawing, sketching, writing, or calligraphy. This workshop is a great introduction or refresher on basic bookmaking skills, including working with book cloth, making neat corners, and perfect gluing.

How to Close Your Eyes with artist Carmen Papalia

Sunday, November 24

Artist Carmen Papalia, from the Artifacts of a Life Lived exhibition, designs experiences that allow participants to expand their perceptual mobility by letting go of their visual senses and relying on one another while claiming access to public and institutional spaces. In his non-visual walking tour, the Blind Field Shuttle, participants will line up behind Carmen, link arms, and close their eyes as he guides them on an exploration of the CAFAM neighborhood.

During the experiential Non-Visual Site Mapping Workshop, Carmen will lead participants in group and individual exercises to discover the possibilities for developing a sense of place through non-visual interpretation. Participants are welcome to attend either or both programs.
